Imitating a Healthy Person

I’m not sure how many of you are able to exercise regularly - but if you do- KUDOS. I try- whenever I’m feeling well, I’m very good at getting in my walks, bike rides, yoga, weight training- whatever I’m in the mood for that day. But whenever I’m down, it’s usually just yoga. I’m hoping that most of you work at staying healthy too. It makes your general outlook so much more positive. Since I majored in health and physical education, lettered in 5 sports- this all comes naturally to me. If you are having a difficult time getting started, or staying motived, please send me a comment here, and I PROMISE to help you.

But, now, for my imitating a healthy person story:

The sun was out, I was feeling terrific, and my bike was beckoning. I hopped on, and starting peddling away. I went up a large hill about mid-point of my ride. On my way back down, my gears locked, my brakes locked, my bike jammed, and I went flying -right over the top (of course without a helmet). I landed so hard on my side, I could barely move.

There I was napping in the street - or so it appeared.

I had bruises and cuts everywhere. And, I mean EVERYWHERE!! I gradually pulled myself up off the street, and started walking my bike home. About 1/2 way home, I stopped and stretched out every muscle I owned. I got home, and started calling ALL of my friends. I was SO EXCITED. For the first time, in a LOOOOONG time, my pain was HEALTHY PERSON PAIN. It was not the pain of PIDD or any of the other ’stuff’ that goes with PIDD. Just plain ole- healthy, active, doing something stupid pain.

It felt great. Everytime I moved, all I could think of was how happy I was to have THIS kind of pain for a change.

So, here’s to all of you who decide to try something new, start exercising again, or whatever your activity might be that leads to ‘HEALTHY PERSON PAIN’.

At least we’re trying.

Back from Chicago- Welcome to the land of OZ

I’m back from Chicago with Aaron.  We met with doctors and nurses, had lots of questions asked of us, and talked about support groups.

Are there any of you out there who do NOT have a support group in your area and would like to have one?

We are working with the IDF to help form some new ones.

Add you name under comments and tell me where you live.

Well, the Welcome to the land of OZ comment comes from the fact that on the way back to airport, I drove through 2 different cloudburst and tornado sirens were going off all over.  I heard there were 3 sited.

I made it to airport- got on as a standby on an earlier flight and got out of there before I landed in OZ.

HOME SWEET HOME.

Calls with Aaron

I’m off to Chicago today to make calls with Aaron.  One of the doctor’s has requested that I do my Sub Q in front of them so they can actually see what this is all about.  I’m off to bare my soul- or some other body part in order to show them how I infuse.

In case you don’t know what Sub Q, or infuse mean, it is simply IgG therapy that is self- administered instead of receiving an IVig in an infusion suite.  I infuse 10mL (which is a very small amount) daily.

Most patients self-infuse less often, but with larger amounts of IgG therapy.  This dosage has been strictly my choice along with my doctor.

Sub Q does afford a much better quality of life for the patient.

If you have any questions about it, I am more than happy to discuss with you
